In reality, you can't. There are no guarantee's that anything will last in this life. All you can do is be the best friend that you possibly can and hopefully you will have this friend for the rest of your life. Friends come and go and I think the average person has only a handful of friends that they will know there whole life. My motto is to make as many friends as possible.
