My desktop pc runs on Windows XP OS. Sometime back got infected with spyware. So I used some anti-spyware: intially spydoctor, then ad-ware SE personal to remove them. Now system becomes more stable, but the cursor keeps going haywire! Navigate left, it goes right, and vice versa. Sometimes just runs around the desktop. It's very frustrating.
Can anyone help me? Tell me how to solve this problem please. (Hopefully i do not have to re-format)
Thanks. Cheers=)

I hope there is a simple solution to the problem. The known incidents of curser going haywire occur with optical mouse only. If you know you are using an optical mouse. I hope you know. Then take care not to use a colorful mousepad under it. Use anything dull, plain, single colored surface under the mouse, that should solve your problem, if it is the case.

If the only problem is the cursor, I'd check the mouse and/or trackball and make sure it is clean. Also check your wires/cables to make sure they're not damaged or close to a strong source of radio or magnetic radiation or strong electrical field.

If you've got a touchpad instead of (or in addition to) a mouse and/or trackball, it works off capacitance. Getting the sensitivity right can be a pain. Also, using Windex or a similar ionic cleaner on the pad and on your hands and fingers can sometimes help.

If you're using a mini-joystick (usually located in the keyboard between rows of keys), you may have a dirty or defective switch.

If after checking for the foregoing, you still have the problem, there is a possibility that you're suffering the effects of malware.

I don't know about every provider out there, but Bellsouth uses Indian techs that are the most polite and competent people I've ever dealt with. Twice, I've had problems that had no obvious solution (despite running a host of freeware tools and consulting online knowledge banks), and the Bellsouth tech solved my problems.

Be aware that some solutions may take a few hours for their techs -- but I spent over 140 hours attempting to solve my last malware infestation. Eventually, my browser flaked totally out (toolbars appearing and disappearing, buttons appearing and disappearing, etc.) and was useless for web surfing.

At that point, it was either reformat or try the tech over the phone. A few toll-free calls (and about 8-9 hours of cooperation) later, and I was back online with a clean computer and a new anti-malware strategy.

If you don't use Bellsouth and your ISP doesn't have a good tech support system, try the folks at:

They've (especially "Tom," a moderator on that site) been a lot of help to me in the past.

Is it a working laptop or computing device or laptop? What do you recommend with the help of "haywire" ? slightly extra info could prevail. i'm going to take a stab at it besides....... despite if this is a computer, does it have a "joystick", (feels like slightly eraser interior the path of your keyboard), if so attempt disabling it on top of issues panel. despite if this is a working laptop or computing device, if the cursor it leaping as you progression the mouse, attempt cleansing the ball and rollers if it an older variety(do they even make those anymore??) or attempt cleansing or changing the mouse pad despite if this is a laser variety.

if you checked for all of the things mentioned and your mouse is acting up on you, you might have a short circuit on your mother board. before you replace anything try changing the mouse, if you are useing ps2 try s usb mouse, and vice-versa if it continues you may want to replace the mother board, you should not have to format your computer. Replaceing a system board may require a tech.

tell it to stop, straighten up, and fly right! Or get Chuch Norris to stare it down. A round house kick would just be too much...

its probably becasue your using an optical mouse, mine did that because I had a tye-dye mousepad, then I switched to a plain blue one, and it works fine now.
