If it's his will to do this,what can you do? He must be protesting something being done to him in jail. I would find out what the protest is about and find out if it is feasable to get him help to resolve that issue through legal action. If he is protesting just because he is in jail,then he does not have any legal grounds to stand on.

when he/she passes out or you call the jail and tell them (sometimes) they will put them on suicide watch and they may strap them to a table and put an iv in their arm.
