If you've got the paint off you can use a primer/stain blocker called KILZ. There are two types, one is really strong smelling and requires good ventilation, the other smells ok but doesn't work as well. After priming you should be able to repaint without the oil stain bleeding back thru.

Assuming it is a lot of oil, make a paste of ground clay type cat litter and denatured alcohol, slather this on the oil stain...as it dries the solvent will pull the oil into the clay, then prime with a shellac based primer and paint... all of these things are flammable so work with good ventilation...if it is a small spot just use the shellac primer and be done with it.

This is actually for the carpet, but this should still help.

There are plenty of stains that happen to land onto your carpet each and every day. You may notice them, or they may slip past you. One thing is for sure. Having stains of any type of your carpet can cause you to have less value in your home and will require that you invest in new carpeting more frequently than you should need to. Yet, if you know a few methods to removing carpet stains, you may just find that this is no longer the case. Carpet stain removal can happen if you take some time to learn how to do it more effectively.

To help you, we have several areas listed here that may be what you need. Various stains on carpeting require various types of chemicals or cleaning methods. Knowing which bottle to grab or how to react to the stain will help you to get rid of it faster and more thoroughly.

Food Stains

The most common type of stain to land onto your carpeting is going to be that of food. But, each type of food may have a different method that needs to be used to clean it up. So, to break it down some, take a look at these methods for cleaning up the most popular food stains for in anyone’s home.

Coffee, Juice and Wine Stains:

These are some of the most common types of stains. To get rid of them, use a clean terry cloth or white paper towels to blot up all of the excess liquid that you have. Do not scrub. Next, apply club soda to the area. Then, after a few seconds of sitting, you will want to again blot out the stain with clean, dry paper towels. Next, do the same thing but with clean water to rinse the area. Finally, if these things do not work to remove the stain, apply hydrogen peroxide to the area and let it sit. Blot off any excess liquid there.

Chocolate or Ice Cream:

Yes, these wind up on your floor too. To remove them, mix one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with one cup of water. Apply to a clean terry cloth and then to the area. Blot as much as possible with dry, clean paper towels or terry cloths. Repeat this process until all of the stain has been successfully removed.

Grease or Oily Stains:

These are some of the worst stains to clean up. But, you can do it. Apply a non oily, non caustic dry cleaning solvent to the area. Use only a small amount. You should check to make sure that this product will not stain the carpet itself by testing it in a hidden area first. Rinse the area with warm water and blot it dry.

sorry of it's kinda long... But, it should answer all or most of your carpet stains!!

I am sold on a product called Krudd Kutter. Water based, and it has cleaned up everything from floor finishes to latex paint. Oil doesn't stand a chance.
