What is it about the right that makes them so convinced that change is dangerous or that their opinion is the only correct one?

Conservatives, feel free to answer, but no angry rants please. My whole family is Republican and I am the one Liberal, so I know the arguments. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone besides me thinks that believing TOO strongly in any direction is dangerous.

To have an absolute opinion (meaning you think you are ABSOLUTELY right) means there is no wiggle room for discussion/debate/reform. Now, I know that conservatives for the most part are anti-reform, but come on, we all know the world changes and we need to change with it.

I agree. The far-right and far-left are eerily similar in their reactions to each other. That's why I like the centrists, the thinkers.

Both sides of the fence seem to have become more fixed in their respective ideologies, leaving little if any "wiggle room" in either platform. The fact is that most of America is somewhere in the middle, but with the Republicans moving further right and the Democrats further left, who represents the rest of us?

This question makes me laugh. It is very inconsistent. (Well, not as inconsistent as it could be.) You're attributing God (or the belief in God only with Christianity.) You said "With all the advances in science and technology, and facts backing up Evolution and the Big bang..." However, the Big Bang theory is a theory, and it has been disproven. If the Big Bang theory was true, the universe would continue to expand infinitely. But, it was discovered that the universe does in fact have an end. (Essentially disproing at least that aspect of the Big Bang theory) Evolution is different. Evolution does exist, and to deny it is just ridiculous (not going to go into detail.) What I'm saying is, did you know that scientists also agree that there is a LOT of stuff they don't know about the origin of the universe and of the earth and life thereon. Not to mention, that a lot of scientists believe that there is some force out there that triggered it all. (The Big Bang, if that's what "it" supposedly is.) None of this is supposed to be offensive, it's just to explain how you're not giving the whole story, and you think you've trumped these Christians, but you're as blind as they are. So for you to try and act like you're all knowing is simply foolish.

I don't believe we are completely against change, but when confronted with the Liberals idea of a united free for all , do what ever I want , and screw any of the conservative principles and ideas, you have to fight to preserve any remnants of The United States and the principles it was founded on. Republicans will and do debate , if you notice most Dem's answer questions with "What about the Republicans" .Come on what about the Republicans? We answer the same question over, and over, and over.. I have yet to hear anything from a Democrat which doesn't yell contempt for Bush. Okay so you dislike the administration , what has the Democratic Party done , what solutions to all these problems has the Democratic Party come up with. All I see is wishy washy politics and clones. Give me a break.

First off...everyone is entitled to a opinion.

Second off...you must feel the same way about libs as you said " anyone besides me thinks that believing TOO strongly in any direction is dangerous."

I like debate if you can which you cannot. No liberal has ever won based on FACTS and thats a FACT.

Third off...ahh thats enough for now

That is funny because as a Conservative I have always thought that the liberals are the ones who seem to think that anyone who does not agree with their viewpoints are 'obviously racist/prejudiced/sexist, ect. (which is what I have always found so hypocritical.......basically like saying "We think everyone should be entiled to induvidual points of view and anyone who disagrees is wrong!)
As a matter of fact your question is basically an unfair question. I don't know of ANY conservatives, myself included who feel that chage is wrong/bad/scary/ dangerous. I think that is just what liberals WANT to think about us because they are to afraid to accept that a conservative does not have to be closed minded just because they have a different point of view. So I think that liberals paint us all with this "see how backwards they are" painbrush before they have even opened their minds to the fact that we simply think differently. I have found liberals to be among the most unaccepting people despite how they like to go on and on about their openness

everyone believes strongly in their causes. If you did not have strong beliefs wouldn't that make you weak minded? I think that the idea behind having a strong opinion about something is because you have looked at all sides of the issue and made your own conclusions.

I'm interested to see what responses people will have to this question.

But I think anyone who is politically active in any party, firmly believes in what it stands for.

Sounds a lot like the Democrats don't you think? Both parties are self righteous who's members are led like lemmings to slaughter.
