My job requires me to stand for about 10 hours a day in addition to carrying a 10 lbs duty belt. Can anyone advise me as to what I should do?

The doctors recommend 6 weeks for healing. Longer for lifting anything over 10 lbs. As for standing for 10 hrs. a day, it's all a matter of comfort to you. Complete and total healing from a hysterectomy can take up to a year. Good luck; know the surgical procedure was painful afterward - kinda like being hit by a truck. Just do as your doctor tells you and you should be fine.

It took me a full six weeks to fully recover from an abdominal hysterectomy. I followed my doctors orders and did what she told me to do. I didn't lift on anything heavier than my walking shoes until she gave me the okay. I did walk a lot. Your body will tell you when it has had enough. It is important to get up and move. I had two c-sections years before the hysterectomy. This November will make two years since my surgery. I can tell you that no two people are the same, but I'm very happy that I had it done. I can vacation, swim, wear white, and do anything I want without looking at the calendar now.

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy in April and I am fully recovered now, but I felt perfect after about 3 months.

I've had one and when I did I worked at the hospital in dialysis and that requires heavy lifting and being on my feet. I took the entire 6 weeks off and when I went back I was very careful, what you don't want to have happen is tearing the tissue in your tummy and have scar tissue, that hurts really bad, I know, I wasn't careful enough and ended up having scar tissue removed.

Follow the doctors orders to a T, be very careful and when you get out of surgery make sure when you feel like it you get up and start walking, that helps the most, it may hurt but it will help you in the long run.

Take care!

I would say at least 6 - 8 weeks. I think the physicality of your job would have to be taken into consideration. You can have twinges up to 9 months to a year later.

you will be off work for 4 to six weeks...just talked to my dr last week...he wants me to have one and I can't be off work that long. I have a desk job and he did say that maybe only 3 to 4 weeks but for you...you may need the whole 6 weeks....good luck!

I recently had one. At least 6 weeks. (depending on your age, physical shape before this, etc)
