Its a bit dangerous and increases recovery time and chance of infection - and I KNOW you are nuts wanting the baby to come (mine was late too) but just hang in there. The minute you are at your wits end - Boom! - you'll be in labor. Good Luck!

Some doctors will strip membranes at the end of a pregnancy to "get things going". However, there are risks involved with any medical procedure and membrane stripping does have a risk of breaking your water and there is a potential for pain and infection. Our bodies are amazing and a woman's body is pretty accurate at having a baby in the appropriate timing. I understand the frustration and desire to "get things moving" since I have birthed 4 babies, all of whom were born after their due dates (between 5 days and 11 days past). Any artificial means of speeding up labor may result in complications. Many women I know who had induced labors had considerably harder and more painful contractions. I had a gel insertion with my 4th pregnancy to soften my cervix. I had a bad reaction and it sent me into immediate hard labor (6 minute long contractions) and my baby into distress. I would suggest letting your body take the lead here and avoid any unnecessary procedures.

You could but I suggest you wait until it's time. The baby's gonna come when he or she gets ready. I had my son on august 28th and had to have a c section because he DIDNT wanna come and I was past due. He was getting too big. He was almost 9lbs. If you know like I know you would stay pregnant as long as you can. Waking up in the middle of the night aint no joke. I miss out on a lot of sleep now, but my lil man's worth it. I love him sooooo much.

It carries some risk, as any intervention does. The bag of waters could break if the doc isn't careful. That isn't likely unless your doc is really rough. My OB said that it pretty much doesn't do too much to get labor started though.

You can have this done now. Many times this does not work if you are not ready to go into labor anyway. Just remember that whenever they insert anything into the cervix, there is a chance of introducing infection. I am not a fan of this. Congratulations! Not long now!

It's not really dangerous, but it is better if you and your baby are physically ready for birth. I'd wait another week and then talk to your dr about different options that could help speed up the process.

It's something you discuss with your OB to see what are the options. I heard striping the membranes hurt real bad...

Your baby has been classified as full term for a week. Ask away! It might get things jump started. Good luck!

you are asking for a pot luck shot with people who by all means are not qualified to answer this question, if you think that you are over due, please ask your doctor he will decide when it is time to force the delivery or when it would be safe to push the thought. he will do ultra sounds tests and make his recommend from there.. if you do not have the money to see a doctor there are help programs for the low income to help with medical costs...
