Ok say this girl tells you her name is "Asma" , ( where the letter s in the middle of the name is pronounced actually S not Z )
(it's a Foreign name that means like dimpled face or smile you know when someone smiles and two dimples appear)... but obviously it happens to have a bad meaning in english

What would you think of this name? What does it sound like?

I asked this question elsewehere but the question was too long many people didn't read it completely

sounds like if it were mispronounced it would likely sound like a lung disease...but i'll bet with the accent spoken correctly, it's a very pretty name...

"Asma" has a beautiful meaning, but I suspect your child will not like it very much. Your child will be teased constantly and it will be YOUR fault. He (or she) will probably get into many fights or become very shy and have low self-esteem because of the name you chose. Select another name.

Why does the name have to be different? What is wrong with Aileen, Amanda or Amy? If the name must be a foreign one, you should choose one that doesn't sound humorous to the people around your child.

You say the name is pronounced with an S sound and not a Z sound. How will the teacher know that? How will the future employer know that? Do you really want to force your child to correct the pronunciation of his/her name each time someone reads it?

Please choose another name.

It's a good Arabic name.. it's very common in the Gulf area in the Middle East.. there's nothing wrong with the name, as long as you make sure ppl pronounce it right with an S sound not a Z sound and no emphasis on the S... :)

I like it, it's very pretty. However, in certain cultures it is quite a common name. I'm not sure where you are from, but I know at least 4 girls and women named Asma so I would never use it myself. I don't care for common names.

BTW, they all live in the U.S. ;-)

The name may not be the greatest in english but in her country of descent, it may be one of the most beautiful. If she realizes that her name may sound a little odd in america, maybe someone could suggest a nickname for her that she may feel comfortable with. If she doesnt have a problem with the whole name thing then you shouldnt either. After all, it just a name!!!!
