The bermuda triangle is nothing special. The number of missing ships and planes for that area is not that much more than the average for any high traveled place on the seas...Also, the area is prone to hurricanes and tropical storms which adds to the disappearances. A lot of the mysterious ship stuff, when looked at closer is nothing out of the ordinary.

Scientists have some theories as to why ships and planes disappear over this region. The majot theory is that the weather there wreaks absolute havoc with planes. There's the Gulf of Mexico, which spreads tropical warm air over the East Coast, meeting with a mass of cold air coming in from the Rockies - where they meet, you get all sorts of bad weather, on land and over the sea.
And then there's the established fact that the Triangle is one of two longitudes on Earth where True North and Magnetic North both point in the same direction, leading to inexperienced pilots making unnecessary course corrections and getting themselves into fatal trouble as they pick the wrong flight vector and head out to the open ocean.
There is also the hypothesis that some sort of marine phenomenon such as pockets of methane from the ocean bed could be causing at least some of the maritime problems, because water infused with methane (like carbonated water, only with methane instead of carbon dioxide) doesn't support buoyancy, so boats, ships, even lifebelts and similar flotation devices, would sink, sending everyone to their deaths and leaving behind no trace on the surface.
The experts have plenty of explanations, even piracy and hijack attempts (see the Airport 77 movie) and plain old human error.
What they don't have are explanations which feature dimension warps, aliens or the ruins of Atlantis. They have enough explanations based on real world causes.
And maybe one day, some survivor will be able to turn around and tell the authorities which of their hypotheses was the right one, after all.

Planes have largely crashed in to the sea due to a lack of orientation. Ships have sunk as gases released from the sea bed cause the density of the water to decrease which decreases the push of the water on the ship.
