The art of MA often presents us with an idyllic vision that is subtly invaded by more sinister elements,as if suggesting the flawed beauty of our surroundings.

often the 'art of MA' will show you an unflawed image which is only slightly marred by 'sinister elements'.
this may suggest that, like our surroundings, all is beautiful except for some underlying imperfection.
oh boy i hope that helps...

MA could stand for several things, I would think in this case a period in cultural history.

Anyway, in this MA they made art, and it gives the impression of a real nice and peaceful world.

However, if you look at it better there are also some less nice aspects to that art. It is as if the peacefulness of the world is disturbed by some darkness, something evil, something not quite perfect.

It is as if the art of MA wants to tell us: your world may look beautiful, but that beauty is never perfect.

MA's art presents a fairy-tale which contains darker, blacker aspects which in turn suggests reality is not as pretty as it seems.

I would take it to mean that there's a dark side to everything, no matter how perfect it may look.
