it will depend also on what you want ; simple mp3 player or mp3 player with color screen that you can look at pictures or watch videos.

If you do only want a simple MP3 player in the 512MB range then go for a Flash drive player witch are less expensive then hard drive players.

Here are some suggestions that are very good choices in my book and inexpensive. You'll find the link below;

1 - iPod shuffle 1Gb --> offers amazing sound and battery life coming from a small device like this one. Very portable, the only catch is there is no screen to view what song you are playing =, enhanced iPod "SHUFFLE"

2 - Samsung 512Mb - With this one you get a display screen and a build in FM Radio on voice recorder

3 - SanDisk Sansa c150 2GB : great device and with a 2Gb. of memory ( +/- 500 songs) not to mention the FM build in radio/voice recorder and you are able to view your pictures too !

For all the other Flash memory MP3 players, I'm not saying they are not good, but taking what you want this is the top 3. And I was in your shoes I would try to grab that 2Gb SanDisk just because of it's larger memory capacity.

Hope this helps, enjoy your shopping !

I've tried a few products - friends and family and that help me to find the right one for me...

I have a Sony Walkman - even though you're not looking for so much memory, I would recommend Sony products - they give a few choices... go onto the main Sony website to get all the info but then search for the best price on priceguide.co.uk or equivalent.

The important thing is to invest in some good headphones if the sound quality is important to you. I find the ones with ear-buds the most comfortable and they don't full out whilst in the gym etc.
good luck!

forgot to mention, stay clear of ipod... far too expensive and not that great.

Apple Ipod shuffle is an option. However you could get something cheaper from Philips or Sony with same features ( or may be more) with the same quality and better prices.

an ipod would be too expensive for you then and it has so much more memory. try getting a sony one because they're better quality than the other brands apart from apple

I agree with speckie - whatever you go for it can probably be improved (comfort & sound) with the right headphones / earbuds / whatever.
