I believe that there are many things that American's want for their country but will never admit it. I'll add my two points and you can agree or disagree. And please feel free to add you own points and people who answer this please feel free to answer toward these new points as well.

First, I believe most American's feel it's safer for the war to be on foreign soil than on the US soil. Better that Iraqis and our soldiers (who are not usually our best and brightest) die than we die. It's not PC but that's seems to be the general unsaid concensus among people.

Second, we need illegal immigration. Just like in many movies and in the past, we need "slave" labor, people who are willing to do the jobs we don't want to do at prices we will never work for. The savings in pay goes to the companies which eventually gets to us although after the rich have already taken their portion. Think of it as the grease that makes our society run smoothly.

Agree of Disagree?

Agree on both points. It would be more costly in $ and lives if the war was actually on US soil. It would also greatly disrupt the economy because, unlike the middle east countries, we would not know how to cope with having a war right on our doorsteps.

While I wouldn't necessarily agree that we NEED illegal immigration, this country does thrive off of it. There is no way that anyone would go out and work in the fields or on rooftops for 1/8th of what they really should be paid. If all of the illegals were gone, we'd be paying $10 a gallon for orange juice, $5 a lb. for apples, so on and so forth. The price of everything would rise and everyone who said to get rid of the illegals would suddenly be crying to open up the borders again.

I agree with your first point. We don't want fighting on our soil. No one really wants that. That's not just Americans, that's human nature. And the same goes for the soldier thing too.
I half way agree with your second point. We do need illegal immigration to a point. And your right, it's very unlikely that I would work for some of the wages these people work for. But the problem with illegals is that there are too many and that creates problems for our economy. Few is fine, not the whole country of Mexico, El Salvador, Cuba, etc.

Disagree
Given the choice of fighting in America or Iraq most Americans would choose neither. Iraq had no intention desire or ability to attack america. The bulk of them thought they were powerless against us regardless of what we did to them in the wake of Bush Senior's reign. The people responsible for 911 were in Afganistan and Saudi Arabia, we captured many of them before we went to Iraq and haven't caught any since as far as the press knows. The War in Iraq is actually doing NOTHING to adress the threat of terrorism other than scaring the hell out of North Africa and giving terrorists a free ticket to make trouble in other parts of the world. It is a war that serves it's own interrests, not America's.

Most Americans are put off by the world Illeagal because they're law abiding and they feel that people in America, citizen or not shouldn't be doing things that are against the law. I don't think that the argument that big businesses benifit from the work Illeagal aliens do goes over well because most Americans don't think Big Business should be alllowed to break the law. If we stop exploiting illeagal labor we'll change the laws to allow workers visas for mexicans to come up to clean our homes and pick our fruit and landscape our houses legally, if it costs us more or creates job market chaos it will be the price of doing things right.

I agree that America will do everything in its power to not fight a war on US soil. I think its smart. I'm quite sure a lot of other countries wish they could take their conflicts somewhere else.

On illegal immigration...Only time will tell. What I don't understand is there are soooooo many poor (and I mean DIRTY poor) Americans, why aren't they doing the jobs of illegals and why aren't the person's hiring illegals being punished.

Please don't say our soldiers are not our brightest. Just because someone joins the army to get college money doesn't mean they aren't smart, it means they are poor. and our military is like our nation...a mix of all kinds.

I dont think we are scared of a war on american soil tho
We would dominate on our ground
Id like to see a country with the balls to invade america
LOL ya right
as far as illegals if this is the case which you may be correct i havent ran the margins but they should at least have to speak
english to be here
instead of bording jumping per say they should tighten the border and just HIRE what you call slave labor, and track all these people
Bush said that anyone here illegal that has been for five years get to stay
I think its total bullshyt
its like getting rewarded for doing something bad
"well we didnt catch you......good job.....heres a cookie"

Well, I've got a chocolate bar in my purse that I haven't told anyone about...

As to your first point, we're not going to win a war on terror. Even fighting a war on terror, on any emotional response, is ridiculous. It's like dancing about architecture. Bring the poor boys home and let them get on with their lives.

Illegal immigration is a fact of life. If we were an island nation, perhaps we could stop it entirely, but we're not. We have the longest unsecured borders in the world and one of the highest standards of living. I'm all for doing as much as possible to discourage illegal immigration, but we need to accept that it's not going away.

I agree with you second point, but not with your first.
It doesn't matter what most Americans feel, the ones who profit from the war are there, and THEY wouldn't want to be near any combat zone. Maybe that's also the reason why they haven't invaded Venezuela yet...Besides Iraq didn't attack the US, would you want your gouvernment to have invited them to fight in,say Texas? The motives for this war are religious hatred and first and foremost GREED and none of the profiteers care a monkey's for the soldiers that fight it or the civilians that are killed.

I disagree with both points. Since I do not agree with the 'war' anyway, it does not matter where it is.

We do not need illegal immigration. Immigration yes, but not illegal.

You better believe it is better on foreign soil. We need immigrants to do the jobs we are too lazy to do.
