Yahoo offers a subdomain and hosting free of cost.
But banner ads appears as it is a free service.
Though, all webhosting services offered free, cost you nothing but to bear some ad banners.
That's why they offer you free because they are paid through those ads.
You can use many other services that offer free webhosting without banner ads.
It is up to you that which service best fits you.
I suggest the service with more space and more traffic bandwidth/month best suits you.

Yeah Geocities is Yahoo and they offer a 15 meg site for free. You can buy additional space if needed. They have a page builder program or you can use html or any html editior like Frontpage to create your files. You can, for an additional fee use FTP to upload but they allow uploading 5 files at a time with the free package. You are ALREADY signed up with your Yahoo id, just go to the geopage and register. It is fast easy and free.

No yahoo does not offer free hosting but you can find hosting from many free sites but they usually have pop up or banner adds on them. if you find one you can get a cool domain for free at www.dot.tk its kinda like a rederect to your subdomain from the real site

You can get really good hosting and your own domain at http://1and1.com for something like $3 per month, so why are you messing with the free ad-supported hosts?
