Nope, and I have seen the end of the rainbow. It sure was pretty though. Rainbows are on the lines of mirages and move based on your position. There is one tale a tad bit truer though, and it is about putting salt on a bird's tail--if you are close enough to do that you are close enough to catch the bird if you really try. The rainbow's gold, however, is like the rainbow itself, something you just never can really touch.

Yes, I found the crock of gold and also a very sad looking Leprechaun. He said he was far from home and lost, asked if I could help him find his way as his poor old mother was relying on him to help her collect the shamrock quota for the day. Naturally I was touched and moved closer to try and comfort him. As I crouched down to look him in the eye he raised his little cobblers hammer and whacked me on the knee. As I fell on the floor yelling "Ow you not very nice small person" and similar things, he grabbed the crock bowed mockingly, laughed and ran off. Never felt the urge to explore the end of rainbows since. I think they should carry a health warning.

When I was small there was an end of the rainbow just outside the back door step. There it was, gold, gleaming shiny and new. I rushed to get my wellies, and those blasted leprechauns were loading it onto a barrow.
"Oy that's in my garden, it's my gold" I shouted
One leprechaun stuck out his tongue, another made a gesture I did not understand (I was small and lived in a nice neighbourhood)
"Dad! Some funny little men are stealing the gold"
Dad gets airgun, just in time to see their little bottoms disappearing into the bushes with barrow and gold.
"Dad, what does this mean?" says I, copying the hand gesture beautifully. Whack!!

How did you get your purple hair by the way? I want purple hair!

well the problem lies in that there really is no end to the rainbow. it's all a illusion that the rainbow ends when all that you are really seeing is the light getting defused throught drops of water in the sky in the form of either rain or a fine mist.
