You can't even kill a convicted serial killer without going to jail. But, get yourself some political clout and you can kill anyone you want to, any time you want to. It's never right to kill, but that ain't stopping anyone.

The whole USA isn't your private property. Just by sight, you don't know who is or is not an illegal alien. Besides, if it were legal to shoot just anyone, you and I had better watch our backs because someone would be after us for some infraction or another.

In the first place, the United States is not your private property, which creates your first legal obstacle. Secondly, you can't shoot illegal aliens for the same reason you can't shoot foreign tourists, or your neighbors on the street, or a playground full of schoolchildren. Illegal or not, they are still human beings and are protected from violence in this country unless they present an immediate threat to life and/or personal property. There's your second legal obstacle. Third, let's think about the logistics of your proposition.

You: "Excuse me, may I see your passport or proof of US citizenship?"

Random person: "Er... what for?"

You: "Well, you see, if you can't produce proof of citizenship, then I'm going to shoot you for being an illegal alien."

Random person: ...

You: "So, how about that proof of citizenship?"

Random person: "My proof of citizenship is on its way here. The nice men in uniforms will take you to see it."

Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? That's because it IS ridiculous. Where in heaven's name were you brought up that you think shooting random people because you suspect they are here illegally is a perfectly acceptable thing to do?!

You have it turned around.

I know it is common in movies and books to have the defending your property scenario; but in actuality the Constitution makes you the property of the United States, not the United States belongs to you.

That said, go ahead. But expect at least 20 to life for the crime.

The only illegal aliens I know of come from outer space and shooting at them will only piss them off, which might be a good thing because one less idiot with a firearm would do this country some good.
