You double click the speaker icon in the taskbar and click the mute button on the mic.

Double-click the "speaker" icon on the bottom right corner of your screen (this asuming you are using Windows). and "Mute" the microphone and/or Line in column(s). If you don't see the "speaker" icon right there, then click the white arrow on the blue button, to expand the taskbar options and you should see it, if you still don't see it.
Click "Start"-->Click "Control Panel"-->Click "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices"--> On the left hand side panel, click "Advanced Volume Controls"
or
Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Entertainment-->"Volume Control"
Then "Mute" the Microphone/Line in column(s)
