Well, part of it depends on your genes, some people can gain weight really easily and other cannot. If you are trying to gain weight by way of muscle mass you should to eat things high in protien, protien will add weight on and allow you to build muscle while at the gym. But, you need to do a heavy workout, I mean you need to work with heavier weights to really get that muslce to pop. Working with lighter weights will add muslce, but it will be a lean muscle and not much weight. There is always just pigging out on food to gain weight but that is not the healthiest way to go about it.

Eating

A bowl of ice cream at night before you sleep; a bowl of cereal and fat milk for breakfast; a cheese sandwich and cheesecake for lunch; red meat; lots of "taters" or pasta and snack on cookies n milk in between. Donuts are good too and an occasional slice of pizza between meals doesn't hurt as well.

Take a mass-builder / protien supplement (shake) available at GNC or other health food stores. That's one of the key things bodybuilders use to add mass off-season.

take in more calories than you burn? Of course that depends on your metabolism which may be quite high, then you would have to eat A LOT...and not move at all!
