The Spirit of JFK - Devo

Let the word go forth
Let the word go forth
From this time and place

Good evening my fellow citizens
I'm speaking tonight in a spirit of hope
In the human spirit, the human spirit

Lee Harvey Oswald
Oh, No
Jack Ruby
Oswald and Ruby
Oh, No

To Friend and Foe alike
Oswald and Ruby

My God, have you heard
The president is dead

Oswald and Ruby
They do not imprison spirits
Oswald and Ruby
They do not imprison spirits
The president is dead

Well, I know where that 3rd shot came from
The grassy knoll
Behind the picket fence

The energy, the faith, the function
which we bring to this endeavor
We'll fight our country and all who serve it
And the glow from that fire
Can truly light the world

History will record the facts
I didn't shoot anybody

Lee Harvey Oswald
Why should anybody serve?
Why should anybody serve?
Jack Harvey Oswald

We have learned in times past
The spirit of one moment or place
Can be gone in the next

Well... not actually about his death per se. But there is a song called "Has Anybody Here Seen My Old Friend..." The singer actually names, Martin, Robert and John.. Martin Luther King, Jr., Robert Kennedy and John Kennedy.

The song Abraham, Martin and John was written in 1968, RICHARD HOLLER.

The one I can think of off the top of my head is The Byrds song called "He Was A Friend of Mine." It was a folk song that they updated the lyrics to in honor of JFK:

He was a friend of mine, he was a friend of mine
His killing had no purpose, no reason or rhyme
He was a friend of mine

He was in Dallas town, he was in Dallas town
From a sixth floor window a gunner shot him down
He was in Dallas town

He never knew my name, he never knew my name
Though I never met him I knew him just the same
Oh he was a friend of mine

Leader of a nation for such a precious time
He was a friend of mine

BUT, there's this web page that has a list of tons of songs that are supposed to be about it: http://www.turnmeondeadman.net/JFK/Songs.html

Yellowcard have a song called JFK or Martin Sheen:

Here it is one more glass for these broken hands
Goes down for you.
I've fallen in I sink then swallow
I never meant to see this through.

I'm taking them all, taking them all back for good
To a place where I know that I'm safe.
Then I can fall, then I could fall where I should
In this bottle with all my mistakes.

All the days since I've landed
I lost the way to find my truth
You float away and leave me stranded
What's left to say I'll hurt for you.

I'm taking them all, taking them all back for good
To a place where I know that I'm safe.
Then I can fall, then I could fall where I should
In this bottle with all my mistakes.

I could sleep but when I wake here
You'd still be gone
And you're my air.
I could breathe if you would stay for
another song so I could stare.

I could sleep but when I wake here
You'd still be gone
And you're my air.
I could breathe if you would stay for
another song so I could stare.

I'm taking them all, taking them all back for good.
To a place where I know that I'm safe.
Then I can fall, then I could fall where I should
In this bottle with all my mistakes.

I'm taking them all, taking them all back for good.
To a place where I know that I'm safe.
Then I can fall, then I could fall where I should
In this bottle with all my mistakes.

Hmmm... 'Kennedy' by the Wedding Present does contain the line 'If Lee's name does come up, I really want to know...'
And We Didn;t Start The Fire by Billy Joel contains the pithy line 'JFK. Blown Away. What more do I have to say?'

"Bullet" by the Misfits

President's bullet-ridden body in the street
Ride, Johnny, ride
Kennedy's shattered head hits concrete
Ride, Johnny, ride
Johnny's wife is floundering, Johnny's wife is scared
Run, Jackie, run
Texas is an outrage when your husband is dead
Texas isn't arid when they pick up his head
Texas is the reason that the president's dead
You gotta suck, suck, Jackie, suck

President's bullet-ridden body in the street
Ride, Johnny, ride
Kennedy's shattered head hits concrete
Ride, Johnny, ride
Texas is an outrage when your husband is dead
Texas isn't arid when they pick up his head
Texas is the reason that the president's dead
You gotta suck, suck, Jackie, suck

Arise Jackie O,
Jonathan F. Kennedy
Well, arise and be shot down
The dirt's gonna be your dessert
My cumm be your life source
And the only way to get it
Is to suck or f*ck or be poor and devoid and masturbate me
Masturbate me
Then slurp it from your palm
Like a dry desert soaking up rain, soaking up sun
Like a dry desert soaking up rain, soaking up sun
