reboot in safe mode, change the PC video resolution to a lower one
Example 1280 x 1024 maybe is too high, go with 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600. Also check the vertical refresh, make sure it's 60Hz.

Boot the PC into safe mode ( by pressing F8 at start up)

right click on the desktop

select properties

select settings tab

click advanced button

select monitor tab

select 60Mhz from drop down menu in middle and check the "hide modes this monitor cannot display" box

click apply

restart machine

this means they have set the resaultion to high, eg above what the monitor can support. eg if the monitor can only support 800*600 and u set the machine to 1240*678 the monitor will not be able to process the display. until it changed back
to change the res back to what it should be when the machine startups press and tap f8 and choose safe mode then goto control pannel from start/then display then settings and lower the res to 800*600 apply it
restart machine fixed
hope this helps

Sounds like you are using a wireless connection.

If so, move closer to the wireless connector.
If not, the computer THINKS your friend is connecting to a wireless. Check the connections.
