In a way. We travel a lot, and try to stay in cheap motels as best we can, and take an electronic cooler with our own food so we don't have to pay restaurants, then the family member we visit takes us in for the stay. We also spend a lot of time in rural Mexico, which is where I'd rather be all the time. While we are there we save money for the next round of US family visits.

If we didn't live like that, we quite simply would not be able to travel that much.

Last summer, we drove 11,000 miles in 59 days helping our son move to Virginia to medical school. It is not uncommon for us to drive 4,000 or 5,000 miles in a month on our rounds. The most we have driven in a day was around 810 miles. Well, not much, but we are 64 and not as tough as we were 40 years ago.

Sure we are-hate to waste hard earned cash and if i wasn't a budget mum as my kids jokingly call me, they couldn't have music, sport and other necessities like travel or holidays.
So I stretch those dollars by buying absolutely NO junk-like food, toys, fashion.(or gas guzzling vehicles).
My children wear school uniforms so that is easy. Otherwise they're in sports gear etc. and only need a three or less leisure outfits.
I have made poverty an art and enjoy it.

Yes, though it's not exactly by choice. We make extremely little money in my house but we still always manage to save a little bit of money.
