I am 32 weeks pregnant the doctor said the baby was bigger than normal, and that it could mean early labor. I have been having horrible back pain off and on all day. Could it be back labor or just the soreness of pregnancy?

If you are overly concerned you can always go to labor and delievery and get checked. Like my doctor told me both pregnancies, better safe than sorry. Labor and Delievery is used to overconcerned women, they won't mind it one bit. I never got back pain when I was pregnant so I couldn't tell you if it's normal or not. If the doctor doesn't call you back soon, get checked. You wouldn't want to go into full blown labor this early on.

I received a call last night that my daughter in law was admitted to the hospital (she was early too). She was experiencing severe back pain yesterday so her doctor had her admitted because he suspected that her labor had started.
The contractions stopped but at this very moment she's in surgery...having a c-section.
I should be a grandma very soon.
I'm thousands of miles away or I would be there holding my son's hand...however he's surrounded at the moment and has no shortage of family members to be by his side.
Get ahold of your doctor immediately..you could very well be in labor.

Backache is very common in pregnancy. Half of all pregnant women can expect some back pain. Your ligaments will become softer and stretch to prepare you for labor. As the baby grows, the hollow in your back may increase and this may cause you backache. Also, due to the increased weight, the muscles in your back may have to work harder to support your balance, resulting in increased lower back pain. About half of all pregnant women complain of backaches. Fortunately, there are lots of simple strategies you can use to ease the pain.

Tips to Prevent and Treat Backache During Pregnancy

1. Exercise. Sticking to an exercise program can solve a lot of your worries. Find out from your doctor what abdominal and back strengthening exercises are safe for you. Also, find out how long you can maintain your regular exercise program.

Swimming, for example, may be an excellent way to keep fit and relieve the stress on your back from the extra pregnancy weight. Water exercises also invariably work out the trunk muscles, as you use them to balance yourself while floating weightlessly.

2. Proper Picking up Posture, Girls! You’re walking down the hall when you spot your husband’s toolbox laying on the floor. Stop! Remember, when picking something up from the floor, bend your knees and keep your back straight. Always lift with your legs, never your back, keeping the heavy object close to your body at all times.

You can also try kneeling down on one knee with the other foot flat on the floor. Get as close to the renegade object as you can.

5. Sleeping Arrangements. A firm mattress will help relieve your back pain. If you don’t have a firm mattress, put a piece of hardboard under your current mattress.
6. A Pillow is the Answer. Try a pregnancy pillow (see photos below). These popular full-body pillows provide great support for your head, shoulders, abdomen and legs. They promote healthier circulation and can reduce head, neck and back pain. These special pillows soothe aching muscles and also ensure proper spinal alignment. After the arrival of your baby, lie back and use it as a nursing pillow.

7. Wear a Support Belt. A pregnancy support belt gently lifts the abdomen without squeezing and encourages a more erect posture. Proven to be safe, these popular belts can dramatically reduce or even eliminate lower back pain caused by the strains of pregnancy. These belts are comfortable and fully adjustable.

If you think it's an emergency go to the ER. Only trained medical personnel will be able to tell for sure.

I had horrible back pain around that time of pregnancy. The baby was sitting on my sciatic nerve! It was horrible, shooting pain in my back and legs for about 6 weeks!

Also, they said my baby was huge, but she only weighed about 7 lbs when she came!

God bless!

Most likely if you are extremely large, the back pain is being caused by the baby. That kind of pull on the back is tremendously rough and can cause problems.

When my wife had the same problem, I took her to the Chiropractor who fixed the back pain just by adjusting the baby bump. Didn't hurt baby at all and relieved the back pain at the same time.

Defenit possiblity on the back labor. Start timing it. If they are regular time lapses, then call the doctor, or go in. If they are too far apart then they will make you walk up and down the aisle. Call your doctor though.

More than likely it is just from being almost full term pregnant! Your back is not used to having extra weight like that and is trying to adjust. Back pain is very normal. I would try to grt ahold of the doc though just to be sure.

Yeah I would probably say its the baby too. They say the best way to help is to improve your posture just try to sit up straight and stand up tall and straight. P.S I'm 32 weeks as well just think it almost over might help it helps me with the horrible heartburn.
