In honor of Richard Petty.
I'd really like to see 50 out there..especially at Bristol.

They used to have less entry's than 43. then more and more cars were trying to make the Field, to many for some tracks in fact. So they made it 43 cars. The same number as the car number of the king. Richard Petty.

the starting grid has to be set at some number if it was 47 you would be asking "why does nascar set the starting grid at 47 cars?"

I'm not exactly sure. But I would guess in honor of Richard Petty too.

XD Fifty cars at Bristol? I think we would have cars a lap down if they were all going single file just because the track isn't big enough. Lol.

I have wondered that myself. I think it is due to limited pit space in the pits. But then again, I don't know too much. My knowledge is very limited. We should email Nascar and ask.
