Last year a friend booked a holiday for her and her boyfriend. He let her down and rather than her lose the holiday I offered to go in his place. I paid her for the ticket and spent the week really putting her and her feelings first so she would enjoy what was meant to be her 40th birthday celebration. Now, one year later she has asked me to give her another £180 as this is what it cost to change the names on the ticket. She never told me this at the time, I wouldnt have gone if she did and she knows that, which is probably why she didnt say anything. Is it fair that I should have to pay for the name change as well as paying the full price of the ticket in the first place? I only went as I felt sorry that she had been so badly let down and didnt want her to lose the price of the holiday. Just for the record, this lady could buy and sell me 10 times over.

This person is a greedy so and so, her boyfriend lets her down you go in his place and pay for the ticket, put her first and she wants more money from you, get rid of this person as she isn't much of a friend, you deserve a much better friend than that. Even if she had asked for the money straight away you shouldn't pay that much because it doesn't cost that much, no wonder the boyfriend left her, she was probably trying to manipulate him too, learn from this and move on.

Your friend is not really a friend is she. She should have told you about the cost for changing the name beforehand (which seems excessive anyway). Even then she should have to pay such a cost and you going saved her losing the whole of the ticket price. You are being used and if you pay her she will alway use her. Tell her politely now that you don't have the £180 to pay her and since she didn't tell you at the time there is no point in asking for it one year later. By the way has she a receipt for the £180, bet not she just wants some extra money and is conning you all the way. DONT PAY

Obviously she isn't much of a friend. Considering that you paid for the ticket, she mentioned nothing of the kind at the time and now demanding of you to pay. She seems to be more concerned about the money than your friendship. Pay her the money and move on.

friends don't demand anything and also I'm sure it only costs about £25 to change the name on a ticket so look into it before handing any cash over

Tell her how you feel and that if she had wanted you to pay for the name change also, you would not have gone.

Tell her you went as a friend - and why did she leave it for a year? She doesn't sound like much of a friend to me.

Wow, with friends like that...

If I was in your place, I would speak to the friend in person, but at the very least over the phone (not email) and say that this amount was never mentioned at the time, and you think she's being unfair. Explain to her that you can't afford this. If she pushes it, tell her you think she's being unreasonable.

Some friendships aren't meant to last forever...

this person is not your friend. Don't pay for anything... I bet they will not stay around. Real friends don't need any money from you to be friends. If that is a friend, what do your enemies do?

You shouldnt have to pay because you didnt have to pay for her ticket... you should tell her that she is being unfair and that you were trying to help her...
