A friend of mine is in Mensa. I've known her for years and she has never displayed this intelligence. She likes Geoge W. Bush and only weighs it by two reasons--the first is that he is against abortion and the second is he is against gay marriage. What do you think?

There are many types of intelligence
Social
Interpersonal,
Intrapersonal
math solving
musical...........
to hold it simple, lets go to basics.

There are two basic types of intelligence measures. IQ - measures how smart you are in terms of math, problem solving, memory. That all is hidden in your left brain hemisphere

EQ - how do you respond, read the feelings of others, your body language, is equal important, but very often underestimated by organizations as MENSA and co.

I believe, all the people are intelligent, but everyone is predicted to for something else. Eg. Steve Hawking could probably never make such a great concert, or listen several hours to someone with psychology trauma, but he can calculate theories round black holes and the creation of the universe.
I am happy, that we are so different, because only then there can be so many variations.

SO U see, your friend is probably having very high IQ but is very low at EQ. To be honest with you, my IQ is 145 measured somewhere in the college, but my EQ was like hers. Too arrogant and maybe did not listen to others. After my boss took me into the world of EQ, I changed. So I included some good stuff for your friend and also for you to read thru. Maybe it will help. It helped me :-))))))) If you wanna know more, do not hesitate to contact me via messenger at ssentinell@yahoo.com

Just because someone is in MENSA doesn't mean they are intelligent across the board on every subject. It does mean they had to meet a certain intelligence quotient and so yes, your friend is at genius level. This doesn't mean her genius applies to political or social science. Sometimes intelligence in one arena (such as mathematics or science) can be staggeringly high and that same person can be deficient almost to the post of below average intelligence in another arena. Often very intelligent people have a definite lack of common sense applicable to everyday life.

I understand your consternation though about the Bush thing, it seems like anyone who still supports this fool must be brain dead. But she is reflective of the Religious Wrong's position, who seem to mainly vote on their religious principles and damn everything else, like economics or the war in Iraq.

Then again, maybe she was able to get a hold of the MENSA basic test and studied it beforehand so she could be a member. This has been known to happen. Good luck with the mystery!

Concerning Mensa,
Of course they are very intelligent. The is a fact. However, there are persons that may not do well in meeting all the criteria for Mensa but display many unusually intelligent characteristics. Such as in art, engineering, philosophy, finance etc.
I think most of us have known persons that didn't have a college or even high school diploma that have made strong contributions to our society on many levels. History proves that.
Mensa or any other barometer for intelligence misses the mark in many cases for the exceptional person out there that doesn't fit into a particular mold.
Furthermore, these stipulations for Mensa and other criteria does not guarantee that the person has common sense which is not very common these days. Also, your friends or any ones personal opinions are not in theory a measure of their intelligence or lack of. We are all our own selves, a unique and marvelous mystery.

Mensa shows IQ. IQ has no relation to common sense. Members of Mensa *are* smarter than average people, there's no "do you think they are" about it. But, they don't necessarily use their powers for good. Sounds like your friend just doesn't care about politics or is like so many people - an issue voter. She doesn't have the drive to do any research, so she just goes with issues that are important to her. If Saddam Hussein said he was agasint gay marriage and abortion, she'd probably go with him, too.

OOH snap, haha Looks like your friend is an idiot.
However, I know that jsut to GET into mensa one needs to pass a test with an average IQ of over 140 or something of that number.

George Dubya is a common sense type of issue...too bad she's wasted her mind on that dumbass of a president.

Raw intelligence is no indicator of good common sense. My brother and I are both Mensa members, although we just joined to see if they'd accept us. Some are very smart, some not so much. Just like any other demographic, really.

There are many different kinds of intelligence, and Mensa only measures one of them - puzzle solving. Many professionals with a lot of education tend to look down on Mensa for this very reason.

A Mensa requirement is that members have a minimal genius I.Q. Good sense and judgment are not a requirement.

People in mensa have a high iq score, that has nothing to do with being intelligent. Ever hear the saying "brilliant idiot"?

This is a funny question, but what liberals dont get is people's religion is more important than any issue they could ever bring up in a political debate. I like some of what both parties may say, however trying to tear someone away from their religious belief is like asking someone to shoot their mother or something extreme like that. In the eyes of most religious people, there is no tearing them away from a political party as long as that political party shares some or most of their religious beliefs. The problem with the liberal side is that many people dont associate liberals as being religious, they can come out with all their movies and media outlets but it still wont sway the silent majority that live conservatively with their families of 2.2 children, and church on Sundays. This side of the political agenda is what the liberals need to adhere to if they have any chance in 2008. NO MATTER HOW MUCH BUSH SCREWS UP NOTHING IS WORSE THAN TURNING ON YOUR RELIGION. I cant say that I dont agree with those people, because I too think killing innocent unborn humans is the most disgusting grave act in this world (because its done out of a matter of selfish convenience, that in which people from the liberal side think its some feministic right). So in other words nothing liberals can say will ever tear someone away from their religion and agenda's having to do with their moral values...in those peoples eyes (including mine) nothing in this world is more important. Nothing is more important than God, no political agenda, no thing on this earth.
