It used to. It doesn't anymore. I have learned as the years have gone by that simply because someone uses bad grammar it doesn't necessarily mean they are ignorant. I know many people who cannot put two words together correctly in a sentence, but are very savvy in other ways.

Yes, as a matter of fact, it does... as well as misspelling the easiest words in the English language and lack of or incorrect punctuation. It also hints at laziness and a certain lack of respect for the people who are listening to the person's diatribe.

I can understand if English is not a first language. It IS one of the most difficult languages to learn. However, when someone was born and raised in this country, attended public or private schooling, and English IS their first language (barring any disability that would hinder learning and/or speaking properly), then there is no reason to not use American English in the correct manner.

If it was based on 1st impression only, then yes. It would also depend on the age of the person talking. A 2 yr old with bad grammar is a lot easier to overlook than an adult using bad grammar.

Yes. Bad grammar tends to be a sign of ignorance and poor education. But you can't really blame those people; they are just talking the way that the other slack-jawed yokels around them talk. It takes intelligence to recognize that, or at least a truly caring friend to point it out.

YES!!!

I saw an interview of a local yocal after an incident with a dirty politician. The woman they interviewed was named, "Lulu" and she kept saying, "It ain't right what he done." Now why would a reporter choose Lulu rather than someone with an actual opinion? Someone with the ability to articulate? Anyway....I feel your pain....daily!

Yes it does change some of my perception, talking especially but typing as well. I dont like it either, but I guess we need to get used to it because there are a lot dumb people out there.

If the person who used poor grammar is a native English speaker, I just figure they're poorly educated or lower class. They could still be very smart..

Yes, it drives me crazy, and yes my assessment of their intelligence is reduced. Most of the questions from adolescents or people in their early 20's on this site have NUMEROUS such errors and it makes you wonder what our schools are doing (or not doing) with our tax dollars.
