There's an arguement going on as to whether the Iraq citizen's who choose to defend themselves from "yes" the American soldiers are actually "terrorist" and not "insurgents"!How can we call these people "terrorist" when they are "defending " themselves?Do you think the problem is because the US soldiers are having trouble in deciding who is which? What can we do to change this?I think this is a "big" problem! Ideas? Thanks

Thomas R Those are the "true" terrorists and I don't believe for one minute they should be called anything but! I don't think insurgent's go killing their fellow Iraqi's!

Bia... That was a very strong statement about American soldiers being killers, and I don't think the American people want to believe that we would do such a thing! War is not pretty and under stress and certain situations it's amazing what humans are capable of doing when stretched to the limits! And yes if it came to my survival I would do anything to protect myself including becoming a killer! It's an ugly thought and I hope I never have to be in that position!

Yes Enterrador I agree with your last statement.... if I was an Iraqi the insurgents would be my heros, but as an American soldier their heros would be my insurgents. Now here's where I disagree! If my son { and I did raise 2 of them} started a fight "he most definitely would be a trouble maker in my eyes! If the other person he was fighting with struck back they would be doing it to defend himself! DO I think he's right for defending himself? NO I think they are "both" wrong for fighting in the first place and even though the other boy was right to defend himself he was still wrong to fight! If you punish one you have to punish both! Fighting is wrong!

well in iraq we are fighting the war on terror...obviously if these "insurgents" are coming at american troops, they may have a terrorist mentality...they are not defending themselves because we are not there to fight civilians..we are there to fight terrorists..i dont call a random guy that blows up a car to get troops out of iraq and kill them an "insurgent"...sorry, the whole terrorist thing really annoys me..i saw united 93 last nite and just want to bash those people

Simple my dear. Think about this, if you son fights with another kid in school, would you see your son as a trouble maker and the other kid as just defending himself? No you wouldn't. Same deal here, Americans see the Iraqi citizens who do not wish to have the American Military Occupation in Iraq as Insurgents, but to themselves they are seen as well Freedom Fighters. If the tables were turned and we had an occupying force in America, would we be Insurgents for trying to fight them out, or would we be Freedom Fighters? It is all based on perspective, on which side of the spectrum you're looking at. If you were an Iraqi citizen you'd probably see the Insurgents as heroes, but if you're an American, you'd see the heroes as insurgents.

I think if you are defending yourself in your own country, you should be labeled a freedom fighter and not a terrorist. Iraqis have seen what soldiers do to other Iraqis like kill children and women along with old men. What would you do if these viscous "killers" showed up at your door if you were an Iraqi? I don't condone hurting any of our brave troops in Iraq or elsewhere, but most have given themselves quite a horrible reputation of not only murdering but raping and torturing in the process. I would stand up for myself, my family and my country and fight back.

Sure - LOTS of ideas.

1 - Iraqi Baathists fighting to restore the dictatorship are punks no matter which label you wish to attach to them.

2 - Jihadists supporting and being used by the Iraqi Baathists in their bid to regain power are punks no matter which label you wish to attach to them.

3 - Iranian-backed Shiites fighting on behalf of the Iranian Shiite revolution are punks no matter which label you wish to attach to them.

4 - Armed militias whose primary purpose is to establish their criminal empires in their home regions are punks no matter which label you wish to attach to them.

I could go on but I think you get the idea.

You DO realize that in the last poll 93% of Iraqis said they didn't care WHO their neighbors were as long as they could get back to having the normal lives they last had in the 1960s?

Sounds to me like probably around one-third of the remaining 7% of the population are the problem and, with sufficient will backed up by force, those that live will see the error of their ways. That's what's going on over there right now.

They are not defending themselves in active combat, they hide amongst civilians and attack when nobody is looking. They are killing fellow Iraqi citizens to a higher degree than American Soldiers for the sole purpose of spreading terror. I would call that a terrorist.

Did you vote? Start your own political party and without blasting anyone to pieces, run for office. Why don't you do that? Your fellow Iraqis would appreciate.

It depends. What do we call the Israeli who occupies Palestinian land? Aren't they the terrorist? But do we hear anybody saying they are terrorist while everyone calling the Palestinians who owns the land Israel is occupying.

What a double standard world we live in.

You could go live in a cave...then you wouldn't have to worry about it. The US & UN soldiers are there to help the locals against takeover by your neighbors, Trust me, the US has NO interest in your desert, but we do care that you can have it in peace for yourselves.
