Last Christmas a couple moved in next door to me. It's a small terraced house so noise easily travels through the walls. This couple don't work and have very noisy sex morning noon and night. Not only does the bed squeak and bang off the walls, but she is a screamer. It is impossible to sleep through this and now I'm embarrassed to have friends over for dinner as their sexathons can start at any time! The nightmare is I dont know if I should say to them as no doubt they will laugh and say I'm just frustrated. It angers me though that I have to go get up early to work to pay the mortgage and I am suffering from sleep deprivation. They on the other hand can lie in bed all day whilst tax-payers pay for their rent. I have banged on the wall and shouted for them to keep the noise down but I think this encourages them. Any suggestions?

Totally embarass them, by taping them, and then playing it back to them. Sleep is essential when you've got work. Try banging the wall back, you may shame them into calming it down. If my neighbour banged on my wall, I'd be devistated. Good luck

I assume from the text of your question that you are in the UK.

Although what I am suggesting may seem an excessive course of action, they are depriving you of the peaceful and lawful enjoyment of your property, which is actionable in just the same way as if they were playing loud music.

Contact the Environmental Health dept of your local council - you pay them enough in Council Tax!!

Do not be put off by the nature of the disturbance - it IS a disturbance, and you have a right to take action.

Talk to your other naighbours and see if they are having the same problem, if so then go and tell your landlord and expalin to them what is happening and that your not the only one that this is influencing. Also, mention to that you have banged on the walls to let them know to keep it down, but that is not doing any thing.I'm sure the landlord will talk to them or evict them. I totally know what your going through, the people upstairs from me are driving me nuts too!! I think I might take my own advice..hahaha

Get a piece of paper and a pen. Write a letter with the hand you don't write with. You can say Dear neighbors, your loud animal sex is keeping me up at night. I would appreciate it if you could keep the noise to a minimum. Either shut the windows or put a sock in it. Signed, Your neighbor.

Call the police and file a report whenever it happens after 10 pm; in most cities, disturbing neighbors after that hour is a crime. Start a paper trail with regular police complaints and reports in case you have to sue them later on for harassing you with the noise.

leave an unsigned note in their mail box or on their door informing them that they can be heard and will be reported to the police if it dosent stop......then follow thru with it...most cities have laws against disturbing the peace.....and 9 times out of 10...if they arent working and the taxpayers are paying their rent then the man is living there ilegally....most women recieve housing assistant based on the fact they are SINLGE moms.....so another thing to do maybe to put in an anonymous phone call to your local department of family and childrens services....most of these programs do NOT allow for men to stay in these households where single moms are receiving govt assistance...good luck

There are noise cancelling devices that you can see in doctors offices. Small plastic canisters you plug in and a fan creates a wushing noise that cancels out sound. A guy in my band had them at his apartment so his kids couldn't hear him having sex with his wife. I got one and it rocks! Warning: First day I slept through the alarm.

If it is as bad as you describe I think I'd move away, I couldn't take that, but before doing that you could try Citizens Advice bureau or the Council and ask for discretion. They might be helpful but it is kind of a difficult one for anyone I guess.
