Because of the love they return. It makes it all so worth it. My bunny is relatively easy to care for. Our special needs kitty is more work but she's a sweetie and it doesn't matter to me.

Least Fav: Scooping the litter box, paying the massive vet bills (1 of my kitties has a heart condition), carrying the 40 lb boxes of litter up the stairs along with the 20 lb bags of food, and cleaning up the puke and hairballs. That one dead bird in my apartment.

Fav: Hugs from Calvin, chirpy purrs from Duke and contented "next-to" cuddles from Hobbes. Watching them chase my apron strings all over the house. See Hobbes hide in a corner to tackle an unsuspecting Calvin, and the resulting wresting match which Calvin (alpha cat) always wins. Seeing all three curled up on the same piece of furniture. Having someone come nudge my face and lick my tears when I'm crying ( if my bf did that I wouldn't be so happy about it). Not ever coming home to an empty house. I could go on...Pets rule, humans drool!

If you're single and live alone, pets provide companionship. They appreciate everything you do for them. The act of feeding and taking care of them makes you feel good about yourself. It gives a purpose in life for those times when you feel sad and lonely. It does take a lot of work, and you can't be a neat freak and have pets. They require a lot of care and cleaning. For some people, it's worth it. Other people would rather have a clean house and not have fur all over the place. For those people, raising fish would be ideal if they still want to have a pet without too much mess.

I love taking care of my cat Merlin, he is a loving, giving pet, a great companion who gives love unconditionally. What do I get out of it? Affection, purring, kisses, and a great listener. My fav thing is the loving I get in return, the least fav thing is when he whines too much.

People have pets in order to feel needed. They haven't enough self esteem to believe they have value unless they're taking care of something or someone else and since people will grow up and move away, they choose pets. There is this delusion that when you have a pet for a long time, they are yours. In truth, they are not. When you fly that last jumbo jet to the airport terminal in the sky, your pet will be just as delighted to have the neighbor that you can't stand feeding them, as long as they get the food, and a warm place to sleep. This moronic human assumption that animals need us to survive or, oh my god, they might die off is so damned presumptuous. More species went extinct before mankind's sudden need to be the master than you can imagine. We are not the super beings we like to think we are.

Why have a pet? Think of the advantages over having a child:
They never ask for money, whine about their wardrobe, need a college education. I can put them with a good kennel, behind a good wire fence when I go on vacation and no one will put me in jail. There is never any back sass, total devotion and love, always happy to see you, anything you want to do, they want to do. They love riding in cars to go just anywhere. They come to you when you call them. Their food is cheaper, and their medical care is cheaper.... (I said cheaper, not cheap). In every way, a dog, is better than a kid.... in fact, any pet is better than raising a kid. .... ask 10 parents, and 7 will say, it just wasn't worth the hastle. Better than 2/3 of my friends have at least one kid who even tho they are now adults, pay little attention to their parents. (Some of those kids became almost criminals, sluts, ran the streets, got into drugs, or became disfunctional. And these are kids from good, solid homes!!!!) Kids are ungrateful, pets are adoring.....

I like the love and companionship they give. I dont mind caring for them because I know they need it and appreciate it! I like petting them, holding them in my lap and listening to them purr, etc. I have cats, birds, and rabbits. They are fun to watch, also. I even had a cat wake me up one night when someone was breaking in my house--a watch kitty!! (He got scared and jumped on my stomach and woke me up--I heard the glass breaking and called the police!) The downside is the work it takes to maintain them and clean up after them, of course, but it needs to be done and a healthy pet is worth it. Going away can be a problem depending on how long, but friends and neighbors can help with that. Apartment dwellers sometimes have to pay extra for pets, but again they are worth it.

I love taking care of any animal. My favorite thing is when my kitten getts finished eating comes and sits on my lap for his nap. The litter box is the least fav. thing.

I just love the feeling of providing and taking care of someone or something. It gives me pride... it makes me feel special. I love it when someone needs me. Plus your pets give you love in return. How wonderful. My least favorite part? Cleaning my cat's boxes. Favorite part? Well I love buying all kinds of crap my dog and cats do not need and bringing it home and seeing the look of joy on there faces. Aww.

Animals are loyal, noble, loving, and fun. I have too many, but I love them so much. They have interesting personalities, and amusing quirks. They don't judge me, sometimes they do talk back though. :) They bring warmth and love to my house. The worst part is that they don't live as long as us and it breaks my heart to say goodbye, and even worse to sometimes have to make the decision to ease their suffering. Horrible decision to have to make. but on a lighter note, I am fortunate to have had animals in my life since I was a child, I think they teach you how to be a better human being.
