I drive a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim (est. 150,000miles) 3.0l V6...it has been frequently dying on me with my RPMs drop or I come to fast stops (which could also be the RPMs). It starts back up right away but if I don't put it in drive and hit the gas fast enough it will cut out again. The lights and stereo stay on, but the power steering is gone as well.

Can anyone hint as to what the problem may be? I checked my oil, it may need to be changed but it's probably not urgent because I changed it a few months ago and haven't driven it much over the summer. Any help is appreciated!!!

I want a new car anyway so if you have bad news, tell me now so I don't get stranded :P

dude sounds like you have a air problem, i would check 2 things, do you have a clogged air filter? and also check the iac valve or the throttle body, if it stays alive when you hit that gas tells me you are not getting air to motor and its choking out on fuel then it will flood and run like crap, deff check you iac valve its a small cylinder motor on TB that controls your idle then check the TB it might be broken or in need of a good intake service, also check the air filter it could be oil soaked and clogged, hope this helps.

if all the lights and stuff stay on, it's not an electrical issue.
Hopefully it's as simple as a dirty engine. Change the Fuel filter, have the engine system cleaned. Or try it yourself with STP.
Replace the plugs and leads. put in a new air filter.

If it still cuts out, it may be the fuel pump, Now that's gonna start costing.

After all that, it's time to take it to the shop or get a new car

Some possible problems... 1. Need of a new fuel filter. 2. You could have some oil caught in the spark plugs. Also, make sure you don have some bad fuel. only way of checking that is running the gas out and getting fresh... Last tune up date???

Wow, that sounds bad! You may need to have the engine tuned up, or your idle may be too high. The problem probably has nothing to do with your oil. Your best bet is to have it looked at by a mechanic. Also, if your car has alot of miles on it, the engine might be going . If that's the case, buy a new car!

Hmm.. I had a 96 Neon that did that when it was damp outside (had been raining, ect) It normally stopped once the engine had warmed up. :/

Other than that, maybe it's the curse of the Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth vehicles.

Good luck!

souds as if maybe the pulley on the power steering pump may be siezed causing the belt to grab and stall the motor. make sure everything is moving

Ask to have the anti-stall module checked or replaced-it should not cost more than 40-50 bucks.

your timing belt needs to be adjusted. it controls the valve postions and timing.
make sure its someone who's certified otherwise they can make it worse
