Water coolers and ice machines are two of the dirtiest things in a public setting. They are supposedly inspected often. It is not the algea that is the trouble BUT seeing that may indicate other problems. Call the local health department they will talk to you. Think about all the people who have gone to the toilet and did not wash their hands(YOU Know who you are) or have colds(or anything else contagious) and tooth decay IS spread thru drinking fountains as it is a contagious treatable disease...the mind boggles at the possibilities!!

Yes! you turn green.
If someone with a lick of sense and was so worried about it would just use a bit of bleach on the faucets once in awhile, the problem would go away.

if there is algae growing.. there could be other micro organisims (bacteria)
so i'd clean your water cooler
