I'm a relatively healthy 25 year old female. I have been on the pill, a low dose form, for about a year now. I was off it for a year while on it for two years prior. I usually don't have a heavy flow, I have a very light flow, I only wear a panty liner. I start my period next week and last night I was spotting and this morning I noticed more spotting, not actually blood but a brownish red gush if you will, I know that is a lot of detail!! I have been really stressed out for the past 6-8 months due to my living situation. I also noticed I am getting hot flashes. Is this normal? Is the spotting normal, how about the hot flashes? This hasn't happened before, should I be concerned?

Your hot flashes and spotting my not actually be related. However, stress can really mess up everything about you mentally and physically, so this could be a major cause of your problems. Visit your gyno and give all your symptoms as well as outlining your stress levels so he/she can assess your situation and determine whether they need to do tests. Everyone is different when it comes to that area of the body so it is best to get a doctor's opinion.

Sounds like you might be under a lot of stress and that can cause hot flashes. If you take your birth control pills regular you should not have problems. Sometimes one must re adjust when off the pill for awhile. I would make a doc appointment and see if maybe another prescription is needed. Good Luck!

it is normal for the periods to get messed up like that, stress affects it a lot. But dear you are not bleeding enough too.
Try using an IUD. Pills are not safe in the long run. Pls see that you chosse an IUD with no metal in it and keep checking it's loation for first few month. Pls stay away from the patch completely. My best friend is an IVF expert and she has given me some terrible reports about women's health who used it.
Apart from that pls see your doc.
As i would do that every three months.

Emotional stress will definitely mess with your uterus, for sure.

Due to the nature of "the pill" and the hormones that come with them, anything is possible, especially the "hot flashes"...Every woman usually spots when her period is near...sometimes an icky, blackish/brownish discharge will result before your cycle begins. Everything sounds normal except for those damned birth control pills!

Don't mess with those myself...

Stress can minfest in many ways and due strange things to your body!! Take an HPT just to rule out other things concerning the spotting. And the hotflashes, probably stress relates. I would see a doctor anyways tnhough just to be safe!

Low dose isn't way to go if you are going to plan on staying on the pill. Talk to your doctor about switching you to a monophasic pill.

Probably your birth control meds are not working right, they may need to be changed. Best bet is to contact you GYN. I don't think it is a major emergency. Just make an appointment
