It is not very easy to receive a virus directly from internet chat or message software. The danger is that someone may send a link to a website which could deliver a virus if the link were clicked on.

It is always wise to have up-to-date virus software installed if one uses the internet. There is absolutely no excuse for not doing so. There are several free antivirus softwares available.
