Yes long distance relationships can work, it takes a lot of trust to each other but it is possible. And now days there are lots of ways to keep in contact with each other that doesn't cost you a lot of money. It just depends upon how much you love and care for the person and how much he feels the same for you.
Good Luck.

No. I'm just getting out a long distance relationship with a perfect woman 1000 miles away. Perfect looks, personality, character, everything! Been seeing her for 6 years. I can't move out there and she doesn't want to move here. I'm tired of being alone and need the physical intimacy more than what I've been getting. Its the hand holding, cuddling, kissing stuff that I've missed out on.

This is definitely different for each person and situations. If your relationship is strong prior to the separation and both sides are determined to make it work; I think it can and does in many instances. However, for myself, my husband left 3-weeks after our wedding for a year deployment to Iraq. We had no idea how crucial that first year of marriage would be. So after a few months of him being home we're struggling to reconnect with each other. We're facing another deployment and I don't think it can withstand another year (plus train-up prior to the deployment). Good luck!

it does if both r committed to each other .the only criteria is that u should keep in touch with each on a regular basis & that is not very difficult nowadays bcos of email & chatting & sms.it reduces the cost also of keeping in touch.

This sounds crazy, but it's right- Not if you are
really in love. There are too many emotions and problems that will arise if you really care about each other.
