In my opinion, there is no 'bad' job. Use any job you might feel is "beneath you" to learn. Meet the decision makers and start asking them lots of questions. Learn everything about that business you can: the supply chain, the distribution, customer relations, employee relations, public relations. You can do this at any position.

If you were then to apply for a job with me, and describe all this information and how it operates at Starbucks, you would be very high on my list. A self-motivated and intelligent employee is the most valuable. Academic training is great, but from a vocational standpoint a good deal of street-smarts are important too.

When the job you want becomes available, put this experience and attitude in the cover letter of your resume. If it doesn't grab the attention of the human resources dept, you probably don't want to be working for that company, it probably has poor management.

I have a bachelor's in psychology. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. I should have gone for a double electrical engineering/computer science degree, I would be so much better off now.
