Try typing 'Alberta Department of Motor Vehicles' into your search engine. They should be able to give you a quick answer. Failing that, contact your auto insurance company. The have the specs for driving requirements all across Canada. It's amazing how they vary!

In BC, you can reduce the one year wait time by 3 months by taking the in-class GLP program at a driving school....sorry no info on Alberta.

You may try to get an American license, then transfer it to Alberta....to avoid the wait...easy to get a Washington State DL.
