Many climbing plants are invasive, so it pays to select the correct ones for your trellis. You can look at pictures and read descriptions of lots of climbing plants that are appropriate to your growing zone at:

Good luck with your gardening.

Ivy is a good sturdy all year climber, however, it has a tendancy to choke off other plants. There are different types of Ivy that are not so bad for this. You could try a honeysuckle, the flowers are pretty and they smell fantastic, but all the leaves drop in the winter, and they can be hard to start. You could also try a breed of rose. They are not necessarily climbers, but they will grow tall and even later on in the year, hae leaves and rose hips.

Good luck. It will be beautiful whatever you plant.I love trellis flowers. I love silver lace--fast growing and should be ok for this time of year. Don't know where you live though. Also--morning glories--wisteria--honeysuckle--trumpet vine--just recently saw "shell plant', I think that's the name. All are beautiful but not sure of the right time for planting. I know whatever you plant will be beautiful. Good luck.

Try a moonflower vine. Gosh they are beautiful. Big white flowers in the evening that smell heavenly. It is really a little late to plant them but if you are in the south, you could try. I honeysuckle vine is another fast runner. What about a sweet potato vine? I love vines. The best and most beautiful vine to me is the wisteria. I believe you can plant that anytime because they can withstand hard winters. Mine is growing like crazy right now. You will have to purchase one from a nursery, though. Don't try to grow anything by seed right now. Good luck and gardening to you.

I am thinking that by saying "won't die in the winter" you mean, a vine that is evergreen and will keep green leaves all year long?
There are several evergreen vines available, depending on what zone you are in will depend what will work for you. My three favourite ones are:
LONICERA japonica ( Japanese Honeysuckle) tho can be partially deciduous in cold zones.
LONICRERA hildebrandianna (Giant Burmese Honeysuckle) is a fast growing and evergreen
CLEMATIS armandii ( Evergreen Clematis) Fast growing with fragrant flowers in large clusters.
Enjoy!!

confederate jasmine will grow fast, stay green all year long and put off these most wonderfully smelling little cream colored flowers, if you are in warmer zones, as in zones 7-11. I am not sure for the northern zones; Nevertheless, jasmine can be invasive, if not pruned.
