Most music dealers are musicians themselves. With this in mind, if you go to a music store that sells guitars, and hang out some. Get to know the guys that run it. A lot of times they get some very good guitars as trade in on better one's, and these will have blimishes on them, but play very well. They will sell these guitars for what they can get for them. Now with this in view, you can always offer to do work around the store for money towards a guitar. I know all the guitars in the shop has to be polished and cleaned in order for them to keep them looking new. They don't want to do this job as it takes time to do, and if you can get these people to like you, they will do you a deal on one. Offer to sweep the floor and anything else they need done. They will see how bad you want a guitar, and fix you up! They all know as I do, it takes desire to become a good musician, and I would help someone with that kind of desire. Besides you would get to jam with some very good musicians, and thats how one gets better, by jaming with people that are better than they are. By the way, you got this from someone who is pretty famous, and I too started at the rock bottom, but now have earned the respect of the best in the business. If you want something bad enough, you will figure out a way to make it happen! In the business, 9 tenths of winning at this game is making people like you. Guys used to make fun of the first guitar I had, but now they are falling over each other trying to get a chance to play with me. It goes to show you, that if you go after something 150% full throttle, then you will become the person of your dreams. I would tell you about me, but I don't need the attention. Just take it from someone that now has a little clout in the business. You hang in there, and go after your dreams!! One day your parents will pay to get in to see your show, and believe me, they will have a different attitude then. Good Luck!

Unless you want your parents to kill you, start out with an acoustic guitar -- electrics require amplifiers and can get very obnoxious very quickly. Check out the website below. They have starter kits where you can get the guitar, a strap, some picks, a gig bag or a case, and other assorted goodies for one price without paying a fortune. Good brand names for inexpensive but well-built starter guitars are: Jasmine, Washburn, Yamaha, Fender, and Epiphone.

Try an entry-level accoustic guitar from Yahama. The C40 is a good choice.

Why don't your parents want you to have one? Guitars get expensive, if they are worried you won't stick with it, maybe you should show you are responsible and they will be okay. Parents can sometimes suprise you.
