Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Nixon resigned when it appeared evident he would be impeached.

Thus far in the history of the United States there been three Presidential impeachment proceedings -- in 1868 against President Andrew Johnson for his removal of Secretary of War Edwin Stanton in violation of the Tenure of Office Act - 1974 against President Richard Richard Nixon for the Watergate coverup (106 years after Johnson) - 1998-99 against President Bill Clinton for concealing an extramarital affair (24 years after Nixon).

This is a copy & past from a web site.

I don't think this is entirely accurate. President Nixon, may have been threatened with impeachment but the House never reached that point. Presidents, Johnson and Clinton were both impeached by the US house, both tried by the US Senate and both aquitted.

Do you know that impeachment is only the inditement phase of a judicial proceeding? It (impeachment) amounts to a formal acqusation of a charge. The trial is seperate matter and only after conviction can the office holder be removed from office.

Both Andrew Johnson (in 1868) and Bill Clinton (in 1998) were impeached by the House of Representatives. It's like an indictment.

Each was also tried, and acquitted, by the Senate.

Nixon resigned after the House Judiciary Committee approved Articles of Impeachment, but before the full house got to vote on them.

Only Bill Clinton & Andrew Johnson were impeached by the House. Neither were removed from office by the Senate.

Nixon resigned before he was impeached.

There were two : Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, Nixon resigned before the House vote.

Here's the link, so you can see just how many people here don't research their answers:

Also, note that Andrew Johnson looks quite mean, and I think Nixon takes the cake for his charges in the impeachment hearings, which included:

- Endeavoring to misuse the Central Intelligence Agency
- He misused the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service, and other executive personnel (Under "Abuse of Power" section)

I guess if you're gonna get impeached, you may as well do it right!

Strange how old Republicans come back to haunt you - Robert Bork -the supreme court nominee in the 80's - was involved in the cover up early in his career. Do a CNTL+F serach for his name under the "Nixon impeachement proceedings" sxn

Hope this helps!

Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1867.

Bill Clinton was impeached in 1998.

Both were acquitted in the Senate impeachment trial that followed.

Richard Nixon came close to being impeached in 1974, but he resigned before proceedings could begin.

2 have been. Andrew (Jackson) was and Bill Clinton was. Nixon resigned just before impeachment because he was pretty sure that he would have been removed from the office. Nixon had articles of Impeachement filed against him but he resigned before the Senate could vote on it. Johnson was acquitted by one vote, so never removed from office. Clinton was also never found guilty, and remained in office to the end of his term.

Sorry, it was actually Andrew Johnson. Johnson was the 17th president and Jackson was the 7th. My bad all.

Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Nixon resigned rather than face impeachment.

Impeachment means the finding of reasons and evidence to serve as a basis for a trial. Impeachment does not mean removal from office.

We JUST talked about this in my government class. The 3 presidents that were impeached are:

1. Andrew Jackson
2. Richard Nixon
3. Bill Clinton

We also learned ONLY the House of Representatives can impeach. There's 435 of them. And each Rep has about 145 thousand people to "govern." Crazy huh? I hated that class too. But its getting interesting
