Why was impeachment made part of the Constition?

When they crafted the Constitution, the Founding Fathers provided a method for removing federal officers who have committed "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" against the United States. Things like cheating during an election, selling arms to rebel groups in other countries without congressional approval, accepting bribes and giving national secrets to foreign governments are all crimes against the United States that threaten to undermine our democracy.

As a way of removing from office any government official who has committed high crimes and misdemeanors during their time in public office. Theoretically to keep crooks out of the government, but when they're all crooks, we don't see many impeachments.

Impeachment is part constitution to make sure that a US President does their job with competence and confidence,but does not grant themselves authority to do whatever they see fit to do-this includes going to war without evidence and domestic eavesdropping without a warrant.

So jackasses couldn't be elected and stay in power regardless of what they do: start a war, kill civilians, arrest people on suspicion without a warrant, violate civil rights, waste tax dollars, give kickbacks to corporations, invade countries on a whim, etc.
