I was a manager at a large airport and we considered 3-11 as second shift.
11p-7a was third shift
7a-3p was first shift and the most requested.

When I worked the second shift, it was 4PM to midnight. It is sometimes called the swing shift. The midnight to 8AM shift is called the graveyard shift.

Usually 3-11, but that would be dependant on the individual business. Just think of it as mid afternoon to night time.
