sage has a natural ability to reflect negative energy and to protect.
it is great for claensing and protecting a house, but one use is not enough, i smudge my whole house every month as part of our moon ritual.

with anything it does require some work on your part. you cannot just burn sage and be done with it. you have tp put some energy into it. if you are not a Pagan then just think good loveing thoughts and imagine your good thoughts filling your house as you smudge it.

these thoughts will help to form a strong protection against negative energies.

remember that when you burn sage (or any herb) that the plant has givven it's life for you. respect it and use it to the best of your knowlege and abilities.

if you are useing sage in a pagan or new age fashion, then sage is enough,,,

if you feel a better connection to the Native Americans, then you need the 4 sacred smokes to do it right.

sage, cedar, tobacco, sweet grass. burnt seperatly.

even if you are of a pagan mindset the $ sacred, of the Native Americans will only help more.

Does Smudging Work

"Our Native elders have taught us that before a person can be healed or heal another, one must be cleansed of any bad feelings, negative thoughts, bad spirits or negative energy - cleansed both physically and spiritually. This helps the healing to come through in a clear way, without being distorted or sidetracked by negative "stuff" in either the healer or the client. The elders say that all ceremonies, tribal or private, must be entered into with a good heart so that we can pray, sing, and walk in a sacred manner, and be helped by the spirits to enter the sacred realm.

Native people throughout the world use herbs to accomplish this. One common ceremony is to burn certain herbs, take the smoke in one's hands and rub or brush it over the body. Today this is commonly called "smudging." In Western North America the three plants most frequently used in smudging are sage, cedar, and sweetgrass."

This essentially tells us that using smudging is a way to cleanse an area and enter a spiritual state of mind. Since all religious practices are in essence, about intent, if you use smudging with the proper intent is is an effective tool. I have used it personally to clease and bless homes and people and it is effective for those that go into it with the intent to change their mindset.

I had to have my house cleansed and we used a smudge stick. It worked for a long time but I'm having problems again. It's definitely at least a good start. You want to also have someone bless your house.

In my experience, yes, it does. It helps to clear the mind and body of negativity, and it does seem to drive off any unpleasant entities or vibrations that may be lingering around. If nothing else, just the ritual of smudging seems to calm and focus the mind.

Find someone who knows how to do smudging properly, and see if they'll help you learn how.

I smudge my house with a combination sage, tobacco, and cedar. I helps to cleanse my house. I do it once month to keep up with all the astral garbage that accumulates. I feel like it works. I definitely feel better afterwards.
