carpet and rugs, which need to be vacuumed and occasionally dry- or steam-cleaned.

wood, which needs to be swept or dusted, and occasionally polished.

linoleum, which needs to be washed with soap and water.

tile, stone, or marble which need to be washed with soap and water

rush mats, which are usually just replaced when worn

straw, which is replaced when dirty

concrete, which gets washed down with water.

metal grates, which can be washed off

wood - relatively cheap. can be sanded or refinished as needed. lasts a lifetime.

carpet - lasts a relatively short time and is a hassle to replace if you live in the house.

linoleum - very cheap. easy to clean.
