Don't worry about wheather or not it is odd. It's really more of a gift when you consider how many people can't stand to be alone.
The time you spend alone will help you to treasure the time you spend with others even more (and that includes the time with your kids). You will be able to think more clearly and respond more lovingly if you make some quiet time for yourself every day.
The morning is the best time for this, but find out what works for you. Take care of your mind and I promise that your childrens minds will grow in a way that will always astound you and reward you. It's just the natural way of things.

I think it's perfectlly normal. You're raising four children and that alone takes alot of engery not to mentioin inner strenght. Enjoy all the free time you can get.I have two boys, 7 seven yr old autistic and a 21/2 year old and I can sreiously relate! Being a mom is a serious full time job. Anytime we get to ourselves is fantabulous!Enjoy!

I was a signal maintainer for C.P Rail in the early 80's.My territory was from Roger's Pass to Golden all located in the Canadian Rockies. The job involves maintaining the signals on a section of track not easily accessed by conventional roads. We were provided with a Atco Trailer & a diesel generator to provide power. We worked 6 weeks on 10 days off & I could'nt wait to get off. I was in my early 20's & did not appreciate the peace & majestic beauty of my surroundings.I used to encounter hikers & campers when doing my rounds & they all were envious that I got paid good money to be in a place they paid good money to be. I'm in my late 40's now & can't believe I never appreciated the solace that was all around me at that time. Oh well to soon old....to late smart.

Normal? What'd be abnormal is NOT wanting a little alone time! You just keep on seeking that little bit of time for yourself, sunshine! If it helps balance you out, good for you and don't feel guilty about it. Kids need their parents to have lives of their own, in my opinion, if for no other reason than a fulfilled parent is probably a happier parent.

You have every right to spend some time alone. It is neither sin nor escapism.
Sometimes you want to be left to fend yourself. Being alone for relaxing, for meditating and to be one with God is quite in order. But this should be for a short time and should not interfere in discharging your duties as Father / Mother, Husband / wife, Son / Daughter etc.
You have come to this world alone and you are leaving this world alone and what is wrong in spending some time alone ?
This is very reasonable, sustainable, and hence quite justified and accepted.

Nothing wrong with that and I think it's rather healthy for you -- both mentally and physically. I think that sometimes we just need a break and focus on ourselves alone and we mean for only a very short period of time.. to refresh ourselves.
What I normally do to get away from everything that surrounds me, I plug my headset on my audio deck, listen to my favorite music, sit back, and think about nothing at all. If not, I'd lock myself up and begin writing just about anything on my journal -- just anything. It's refreshing.

I have been alone all my life - in and out of hospitals and clinics - lots of doctors and beautiful nurses - they are almost like family but I am still alone - no family - no lover - just a crib with a window looking outside into a big beautiful world - but I can't go out there - at least you have found peace of mind and you have your family to love and be loved by -

I think it's odd to *not* at least sometimes enjoy being alone.

(Actually I think it's odd to not enjoy being alone *most of the time*, but that's probably just me.)

Absolutely normal ... It's refreshing to hear that someone is comfortable in their own skin for a change ... As long as your children are taken care of , you own time should be used however you wish . If that involves that kind of serenity, more people should try it ...
