Believe it or not, but I was told pole dancing. I saw on television that a woman's husband put a stripper pole in their bedroom as a joke and she started to dance around it and before she knew it, she was many pounds lighter and she had mastered the art of pole dancing. I would like to have a pole, my husband laughs at me, but one day I will get a pole.

As a historical dance enthusiast, I would like to say Galliards, but you'd probably not understand what I mean.

Faster dances are going to be a better workout than slower dances, and thus will contribute more to losing weight in any given similar amount of time.

Given that a Galliard is to a count of one-two-three-four and five, with a change of feet position with a hop on the "and five" and a freestyle choice for the "one-two-three-four" there is a historical variation valid Galliard of standing still for the one-two-three-four and then hopping the change of feet on the "and five" thus that variation would be a poor choice for your Galliard to lose weight.

Thus we're back to the advise to select a dance that will keep you active and moving, because there are slow dances and fast dances in practically any genre.

Pace yourself and have a great workout!

Well i love going line dancing and have been for nearly 12 years. You don't need a partner either. Dances are done to chart music too aswell as country.
Also i have a dance mat like they have in the arcades and you choose the level and the music. Great fun to exercise at home. (i can see your weight dropping as i type!!) just thinking about it!

Ballet is very good for you to tone up and I certainly lost loads of weight when I did it. There are classes for beginner adults as well, so it is not just for kids. Other than that, jazz, disco, street dancing. Most types of dance will help in some way or another!

social ballroom
One social dance = 1.5 hour aerobic workout with little stops if you wish between the dances. I lost a lot of extra flab when I just started out.

Once you get bored with social move up to competitive ballroom - it is even more fun. Or go for competitive right away if you're young.

competative international latin, paticularly cha cha cha. But if you are short on doe, salsa is also good. Really concentrate on you body action. Picture your body action starting at your rib cage and the rest of the body will follow. Also do exercises that strengthen you dance muscles like toe raises and working out your ab muscles. Remember the more muscle you have the fast you will burn fuel.

Any type of dance. I took a very short hip-hop class, but it was a great exercise. And I did ballet, that uses a LOT of muscle.
