Rules for modern wedding attire have evolved with the times, but there are still traditional standards for fabrics, lengths and styles. Here are some guidelines:

It is now acceptible for female guests to wear black, but never white.

For evening weddings, guests should dress for a nice dinner or event - which includes suits (or black tie) for men and dresses or skirts in sophisticated colors and fabrics for women. The daytime dress code can be a bit more relaxed.

Lengths can vary according to the style of the event and location.

It depends on what time the wedding is.

Morning: wear a light pastel color (try a pink or blue)
Afternoon: wear a plain color like a cream with black ACCENTS
evening/night: definately a darker color, BUT NOT BLACK, maroon or midnight blue and have some seaquenes and beads on the dress.

and do not forget to keep the jewels to a minimum, make sure you do not out do the bride on the day. if you are having a ton of difficulty go to a DressBarn or something along those lines. I used to work there and have a ton of advice and fashion for weddings.

Enjoy!!

A lot of people think a black dress is not appropriate for a wedding but I don't see a problem with it. I'd wear a black dress.

Okay, black is never good to wear for a wedding. I am sorry, but that is morbid. You are there to join in their day and they need all the luck they can get. You should wear something light and pretty. Black is for formal wear at business functions or funerals.

Totally not! I think that black is such a classy color! It looks refined! If you are worried about it, though, have some fun with it and put a pretty hot pink flower in your hair! It will lighten it up some! You'll look beautiful! Have fun (I love going to wedding receptions!!!).

The only color that's inappropriate for a wedding is pure white (in some situations, cream is also considered inappropriate). You can most certainly wear black - UNLESS you are the ex-girlfriend of the groom (or ex-girlfriend of the bride... lol).

I think that a black dress would be fine, as long as you feel beautiful in it.
