the prices are dropping for a few reasons. 1) they are dropping due to there not being a holiday in the future that requires a lot of traveling so they can cash in on traveling holiday goers, 2) they dropped because people are finding different means so they don't have to use as much of it one way or another, 3) they dropped because elections are coming up so they can say they'll continue to make sure the prices never get high like that again, 4) plain & simple, the government is just plain crooked.

Prices of gas drops 30 cents a gallon 12 days before the primaries, as does loan rates! Doesn't take a Rocket scientist to figure that out!

Where has he been the last year while oil corporations have been raking in huge profits and paying little if any taxes? Do they even care of all the price increases for everything because of it from plastic to tires! Not even including the devastation of a state like mine who depends on tourists!

How can democrats raise taxes! They don't control a single branch of government and are not in charge of this countries behind the door energy policy!

No, the producers are producing gas like never before to cash in on the high prices, and now there is an over-supply, and demand has gone down due to the high costs for consumers.

The world oil price is all over the world. The USA is just a part of that puzzle.

Here's another thought. My county is the only Republican county in our entire state and the major producer of oil and gas in the entire Western US. Now, our gas prices at there highest were $3.15 for reg. and now are just getting to $2.97. In our largest city the price at it's highest was $3.00 or less. The next county south of us is Democrat and the price is at least 15 - 20 cents less. I didn't mention that our Governor is Democrat and thinking of running for President in 2 years. I'm not at all sure the price of a gal. of gas is politically motivated. I believe the price is manipulated by the oil companies.

I think they are certainly politically motivated. The argument the right is going to use is that the Republicans are lowering gas prices. If they somehow manage to win the midterms (which is looking grim for them right now) the prices will be right back up to $3.00 the next week.

I actually thought that from the beginning....politically motivated, Capitolist crap, etc, etc.

Then I took an economics class and researched how the price is determined...the Government has nothing to do with it. This will be the price we pay for a free market, but to have a regulated one would be far worse.

Politically motivated by who?

Then would have the democrats been responsible for raising gas prices over the past couple of years to put pressure on the president?

The price of gasoline almost always goes up in the summer and down after labor day because summer gas is formulated to be less poluting and more expensive to make. Are there other, more sinister reasons? Maybe so. MIne is $2.55 now.

I think it's fairly obvious.

10% Off Midterm Sale. The prices will go back up afterwards, not immediately perhaps to maintain the illusion but soon enough.

It may also be a 10% Off Invade Iran Sale. But don't quote me on it.
