Growing up in the 70's, it was a little different following sports heroes than it is today. As a Niners fan, I really admired QB John Brodie, although Joe Montana is my favorite of all-time. My dad also got me to be a big drag racing fan. I rubbed elbows many times with Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney when they came to the Bay Area. Regardless of who your heroes are or when you grew up, nothing is more thrilling to a kid than meeting sports heroes and watching them in person.
