Panasonic used to make a karaoke machine with dual cassette players, and a microphone adapter (like a headphone adapter, just reverse, instead of the sound going into the wire, and into your headphones, the sound was going out the microphone, and into the wire, (thus into the karaoke player) i loved my karaoke player. i could find lots and lots of tapes with no vocals (just insturmental versions of a popular song) and included the words. it was sweet! it lasted about 8 or 9 years before it started eating tapes. then i had to get rid of it. *pouts*
i found another one just like mine the other day at my local thrift store, i almost bought it, but i dont have a microphone anymore (and where this one was used, the microphone that came included was nowhere to be seen). when it was new, it cost $30. and that was back in the early 90s, so i imagine something similar would be around $35 or $40. of course today a dual cassette wouldent quite be as desirable as a CD player, and i have seen CD players, that have the same microphone option. they also sell CDs at walmart, and other stores, with insturmental versions of popular songs. i imagine they would be another extra $20 on top of what the karaoke player already cost, as CD players are generally more expensive at most stores. keep looking at low cost stores, if there isnt a walmart or a Kmart where you live, try other stores similar to their style and pricing habits. you are bound to find something in the electronics department.

There are many models of karaoke players available for children. You will want to select one that will play CD+G discs, as opposed to the type that play only cassette tapes. There are a very limited amount of song titles available on cassettes. For more information see my "Karaoke For Kids" page at the link below.
