I remember getting S&H Green Stamps and Plaid Stamps and helping my mother stick them into those paper stamp books, and after collecting enough to get something, going with her to the redemption center / store to cash them in. What other kinds of stamps were there? I'm sure I've forgot some. The stamps received at the checkout were based on your total money purchase. What were some of the cool things you got with the stamps?

To asylum07: No, these were not the food stamps one got from the welfare dept. These were like a bonus you received for shopping at the store.

Yes. I remember those. I was just a kid when we used to sit around the table trying to stick those things in the booklets. It was kind of funny .. if you saved up like 1000 of the books you could get some pretty good stuff. I can't remember what we redeemed them for. It was fun .. they should bring it back today ..it would give parents and their kids something to do other than watch TV and play on the computer. You can actually concentrate on a conversation with other people while licking those things. Thanks for the memory ! :)

I remember every retailer having stamps, including the gas stations, but I can't recall any of them but S&H Green Stamps. What I do remember was how obsessed mother and all the women in the neighborhood were with them. It was like they represented some form of wealth. Any time there was a get together, everybody compaired how many books they'd accumulated. It was leterally nuts.

Are you talking food stamps? I am 35 and I remember them. It wasn't that long ago that people who needed them had to use the actual food stamps. I remember that if the food "stamps" were ripped out of the book, though, a lot of places would not accept them. Nowadays, people use an ACCESS card as their food "stamps".
Other kinds of stamps I remember are from cigarette packs. If you saved up like 1,000 of them the cigarette company would be so kind as to let you advertise for them (at no charge to them of course!) by sending you a CAMEL shirt or what ever.

In the south, Lowes Foods grocery stores brought back that concept, with S&H Green points. For every dollar you spend, you get 10 pts that goes towards purchases or items out of the GreenPoints catalog. You can get some really great stuff.

I remember those stamps, but do you remember getting dishes in the soap powder or kitchen towels in the soap powder????? I believe this goes back to the early 60's.
