And their are 300+ million citizens living in the US. Libs better find some more votes or they are out of luck.

Don't believe the numbers. Chk the news. But, you are not going to find it on CNN either b/c they are not going to report facts like this.

Compared to other countries we are doing good. Why? B/c you have certain groups of people who refuse to get off their *** and find a job. They would rather the government take care of them. How do you explain that?

All of the libs I talk to espouse this bs about how messed up the economy is. The only problem is they say this stuff while they are at work with me making 50k or more a year. The so called poor are poor for a reason. Don't get me wrong, things happen, people get layed off. But the perpetually poor are either substance abusers or they have some other issue keeping them forever tied to a life of abject poverty.

Check out the poverty line. There are many places where you simply can't live with that amount of money... it is too low and they keep it that way to keep numbers of people below the poverty line down, so they can fool people like you.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1327.html

These are the poverty guidelines... now, pray tell how much do you make? Could you live with this income? If you did live with this income, what would you do if you or a family member broke an arm? Or suffered a more serious illness?

Note for the person below... many poor people are overweight. this is not because they "eat too much" but because they don't eat right... ever noticed that rich people are generally thinner? They can only afford simple carbohydrates, and many working poor eat in soup kitchens (or would be better off if they did)

This is just atrocious rhetoric, not really conservative, defending a
poverty line that is still far too low for most palces in the US to live.

You need about at least 3 times as much, maybe 5,for any real standard of living.

And speaking of libs needing more votes,we are finding them in
more Americans realizing that the Republican party of Karl Rove,Tom Delay,Rick Santorum and Jerry Falwell is NOT America after all.

My income just dropped below the line again, but I can't qualify for most aid programs and even unemployment is putting up a fight. The number is based on a person living in the smallest possible housing unit in a low-budget community. It is arbitrary and inadequate. The question is, "How do we escape the poverty line for good?" and "Should someone getting benefits even try?"

Sounds like 30 million too many, and sounds like a need for more good quality schools that don't cost an arm and a leg, whether from taxes or tuition.

Should 10% of the population be living below the poverty line in the richest country in the world?

No.

What was your point anyway?

P.S. It's "there are", college boy.

I would like to know how many of those considered below the U.S. poverty line own cell phones, subscribe to cable TV (probably the premium plan), and are grossly overweight from eating far too much food (as opposed to the truly poor, who have too little).

My, how the definition of poverty has changed over the years.
